What is a Thanksgiving tradition at your house? One tradition that my family does at Thanksgiving is to go around the table and name something you are thankful for. This year, I am thankful for my students. They are a joy to have in class and definitely keep me moving:)

Please comment and tell me what traditions you celebrate at your family Thanksgiving.

Rita’s Story:

Rita often spent hours in her bedroom by herself. She would often just lie on her bed and stare at the ceiling, thinking about how hard it had been for her to make friends in middle school. “Why don’t the other girls like me? It must be because I am poor and I don’t have the nice clothes and nice things like everyone else. If only I had more money, I wouldn’t have any more problems….

1. Do you agree with Rita’s thinking? Will her thinking help her solve her problems? Why?

2. Sometimes you might think that people never have any problems if they are rich, smart, beautiful, or famous. Can anyone ever be completely free of problems? Give an example of someone who has all these things and still has many problems-

3. What are some problems that each of the following people might have?

A. A beautiful and successful 38 year old actress?

B. A 3 year old girl with eight brothers and sisters?

C. A 13 year old boy from a wealthy family who has just been sent to boarding school?

D. A 25 year old teacher?

It is important for you to realize that everyone at one time or another faces a problems and that usually these problems can be solved effectively!:)

Starting the 2008-2009 school year, I will be one of the Emotional Support Teachers at SAMS and will be on team Yellowstone. I am looking forward to getting to know all my new students. I am excited to teach this year and so happy that I have the opportunity to further my teaching career at Shippensburg Area Middle School.

All I ask of you is to be ready to:

Dare to Explore!!

It is that time of year when students feel caged in…

It is good to get out of the school building every once in a while and go on a field trip. This years field trip  consisted of going bowling..

 and playing games…

then going to….

and then for dessert….ice_cream.jpg

what a relaxing day……..

The Science Research Project is finally over!!  You all did a fantastic job and should be proud of your effort and hard work:)

Look at what you have accomplished….

First, we chose an infectious and/or non-infectious disease to research-

like…….               and…..

and Arthritis..

 then we researched for information….

Michael                            Ryan

At times, all this research made us act extremely ”giddy”

We wrote a rough draft and then a final draft. The final paper consisted of 6 items: the Name and Origin of the disease, the Causes of the disease, the Symptoms of the disease, Treatments, Mode of Transfer (fluid, air etc…), and Statistical Information (cases per year, deaths, age specific etc…)

The class then designed a poster of this information………..

Dylan’s Poster…..                                                                                                                                                  Mike K. poster..

The presentation and activity: This presentation required the students to stand in front of the class and explain what the disease that they researched was all about. They also had to perform a simulation of that particular disease.

     Michael…     Dylan…      Ryan….

                                       Michael…

Great Job- I am proud of you:)

May is Better Sleep Month!

This time of the year is busy, busy, busy. I find myself not being able to get enough rest in the month of May

For your journal- please describe your sleep habits- Are there rules about when you have to go to bed? Where is your favorite place to sleep?

For more information on sleep- go to: www.bettersleep.org

We are starting to read the book Holes by Louis Sachar. The first couple chapters focus on describing what Camp Green Lake is like. Is this really a camp? In your journals this week, tell me what you think about Camp Green Lake. Do you think you would like it?

Have you ever been to a camp? if so, where did you go? Please describe it.

When I was younger, I went to a camp in Huntingdon, PA. One of my favorite things to do there was to play capture the flag at night.

Check out the video- it shows some of the scenes from the movie- Holes…

Hmm.. I wander if Stanley Yelnats will see any of these creatures while he is digging holes at Camp Green Lake…..
